El-rufia Unleashes Fury On Reno Omokri, Brands Him "Paid Political Mercenary"

In a scathing attack, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has labeled Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, as a "paid political mercenary." This comes after Omokri accused El-Rufai of being frustrated over not being appointed a minister by President Bola Tinubu.

El-Rufai's rebuke was swift, with him referencing a past case of alleged identity theft involving Omokri. According to El-Rufai, Omokri was accused by an American woman of using her son's name, Wendell Simlin, in an attempt to link former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Lamido Sanusi to the terrorist group Boko Haram.

Omokri had earlier tweeted that El-Rufai's criticism of the Federal Government's funding of a rail project in Lagos was motivated by his own frustration at not being appointed a minister. Omokri pointed out that Nigeria had taken out a $2 billion loan to build a railway in Niger Republic during Buhari's administration, questioning why the Federal Government couldn't contribute to a railway project in Lagos State.

The exchange has sparked reactions within the political sphere, with some viewing El-Rufai's comments as an affront to President Tinubu's administration. Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, criticized El-Rufai for commenting on alleged nepotism in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, accusing him of hypocrisy for not speaking out against former President Buhari's similar actions during his eight-year tenure.
