Dramatic U-Turn: Afe Babalola Drops Charges

                                             Afe Babalola                                  Dele Farotimi

Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria - In a dramatic turn of events, renowned legal luminary Aare Afe Babalola has dropped the charges against Lagos State activist Comrade Dele Farotimi. The 96-year-old founder of Afe Babalola University had filed a criminal charge against Farotimi in November last year over his book, "Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System", which Farotimi used to denigrate and indict the nonagenarian.

However, following the intervention of the Ooni of Ife and other prominent Yoruba traditional rulers, Aare Afe Babalola has decided to withdraw the charges. The decision was announced by Aare Afe Babalola himself at a gathering within the premises of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.

This development is seen as a significant victory for Farotimi, who had been facing multiple charges, including allegations of cybercrime and defamation. With the charges now dropped, Farotimi can now breathe a sigh of relief as the threat of prosecution hangs no more.

The case had generated significant interest and debate, with many Nigerians following the developments closely. The intervention of the Ooni of Ife and other traditional rulers is seen as a key factor in resolving the matter amicably.

Efforts to reach Comrade Dele Farotimi, via telephone on the latest development at the time of filing this report were unsuccessful. But it is yet to be seen whether Farotimi would applaud or not, Aare Afe Babalola's decision to withdraw the case against him before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
