LAGOS, NIGERIA — As Nigerians celebrate Easter, Agro Nigeria, a prominent civil liberties organization, has issued a heartfelt message, urging unity, hope and reflection amidst the country's escalating security challenges and economic hardship.
In a statement signed by Comrade Adeyinka Fadumiye, the organization's initiator, Agro Nigeria extended Easter greetings to millions of Nigerian Christians, highlighting the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a beacon of hope and redemption. "The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ represents the ultimate act of love and sacrifice, as it demonstrates the boundless mercy and grace of God," the statement read. "For Christians, this event is a solemn reminder of the importance of living in harmony with one another, embracing love, compassion and forgiveness."
The organization expressed deep sorrow over the recent violent attacks in Plateau and Benue States, which claimed hundreds of innocent lives. Agro Nigeria extended condolences to the affected families and communities, while urging them to find solace in the eternal promise of Christ's resurrection. "May the hope of eternity bring solace and comfort to those who have been touched by these senseless acts of violence," the statement added.
In a nod to the nation's security forces, Agro Nigeria commended the bravery and sacrifices of the Nigerian Army personnel fighting on the frontlines for the country's unity and integrity. "Their dedication and courage in the face of adversity are a testament to the resilience of our nation"
However, the organization's statement took a critical tone when addressing the absence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been on an extended holiday in France and the United Kingdom for over three weeks. "As our nation faces daily bloodshed and citizens struggle to make ends meet, we cannot help but question the lack of responsive and responsible leadership in the country under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration" the statement read.
Despite these challenges, Agro Nigeria urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, and draw inspiration from the transformative power of Christ's resurrection. "Let us draw inspiration from the resurrection of Christ, which symbolizes the transformative power of hope and redemption," the statement concluded. "May the love, peace, and joy of the season bring us closer together as a nation, and may we emerge stronger, more united and more determined to build a brighter future for ourselves and future generations."
